• March was all-rain in California. I sketch from my car, and when I went stir-crazy, out in the rain, (wet) book in hand.
(Sketching this reminded me of this piece by one of my favorite rain-inspired artists)
• It has stopped raining now and , it’s Pink Season
Drawing “Together” on Zoom
A longer post on play, art, and community is coming in next week’s update. Meanwhile, here are some free and nominally priced online sketching opportunities.
• Check out Drawing Is Free Monday Portrait sessions and Pencils4Tea Thursday sessions. Both are free but be prepared to pose for the group to draw you if you are asked to.
• Need prompts to create art more regularly?
- Urban Sketchers releases monthly prompts. Here is April’s list.
- Doodlewash runs monthly challenges too. Check out this Spring Challenge.
• My Sketching-Together group meets at the end of this week to sketch a colorful scene from my travel photos in Mexico. We sketch for about a half hour, which means we need to be creative about the media and techniques we use. And the question we’re asking this week is “What do you do with a quick sketch when your scene has so much color and activity?”
If you want to join us and upgrade your membership, let’s sketch together!
• The “Gateway to India” Sketching Adventure 2025 is full. If you want to be put on the waitlist for 2025 or on the Early Bird list for 2026, write to me at suhita@gmail.com and let me know.
• My workshop sessions at Sketcherfest are full but there are still some spaces open in exciting workshops.
